Wastegate line missing?

I've never really had a good checkup on the wastegate until today.
To my surprise I saw that there is a line missing?
Never had any trouble so I didn't know something was missing! :(
Where is that line used for?

Thanks
Kurt

Vent to atmosphere for stock configuration.

So I can just leave it like this or better to get it back to original?

Btw, is it possible to install a stock manual boost controller?

Should have a banjo fitting and vent somewhere away from the possibility of being blocked, getting wet etc.

There are different ways to install adjustable boost control. For safety I would recommend reading over a few threads on this before installing.

Thanks for the good advice!
I did read a few threads but none of them shows clearly how to do this on a stock wastegate. It's sometimes difficult to fully understand some of the post's.
But I will keep on trying to find a good thread on this one.

I think these work by controlling the fuel cut off pressure, at least mine does. The way to do this is to punt in a 1.2 or so bar spring and then have the dial o death limit your boost with the fuel cut off. The previous owner of my car was up at around 1.5 bar (tattletale on the 934 boost gauge) when one of the pistons decided to break. The car was 440 HP at the wheels with 1 bar of boost before these shenanigans... At 1.5 bar, it must have been close to 600 HP...

no the waste gate is no connection ot the fuel cut off. that function is performed by the overboost relay. which senses boost from a pressure switch in the recirc valve line. When this is open the overboost relay cuts power to the fuel pumps. The ragged thing sticking out of the vent line on that waste gate is whats left of the hollow bolt that goes through the missing banjo fitting that goes to a vent line that vents inside the engine compartment out of the rain and dirt.

+1 what Ken911 said...just an atmospheric vent line that runs to a cleaner environment in the engine bay. When the dial of death is installed, this top vent line is part of the hose routing to the control knob. By varying the diaphram air pressure with the boost knob, you are causing the w/g valve to overcome a higher rate of actuation. Just like putting in a stiffer w/g valve spring, except for the ability of variable settings.

Thanks all. I lake to have the manual boost controller because driving 1 bar all the time isn't good for my old lady.... will never go over 1 bar.

The things some of these cars have gone through in the course of their lives....
I can't help but wonder what the blue stuff is in the background of your second photo.

You should fix the top part of your wastegate where the remains of the banjo bolt is broken off. Dirt and water getting in there is not good for it.
Looks like someone sprayed everything with black spray paint around 20 years ago.

Also you might want to bolt that engine in before you drive it anymore....

Maltese is right on!
