superchargeing a 3.6

i plan to swap a 3.6 into my 81 sc but stock 3.6 is not enough hp looking for around 340 to 350 hp without going ls1 any one supercharge their 3.6? where did you get tht parts?

thanks,

jerry

The 3.6 is not a good candidate for forced air due to its high compression. I think its around 11:1 which is just too high for any reasonable amount of boost.

TPC Racing has a whipplecharger kit.

did not think about the cpmpression ratio on the 36 can always shave a bit off the heas to solve that i like those wipple super cargers

thanks for the info,
jerry

If you shaved the heads that would increase compression even more, butI think it may be possible to shave the pistons down a bit. SOK used to do this on their SC conversions. But now you have to tear down a 3.6 with is not a small undertaking. Of course you'll now do a valve job since the heads are off, new cams, rod bolts, ect, ect, ect, This is why most people dont use the 3.6 platform on forced air conversions.

the ls notor is looking better all the time more power for a lot less moneydon't know what i wa rhihking on the headsguess i should stick to body and paint work

thanks,

Not what you asked, but why not just go Carrera 3.2 and a turbo. Some of the guys here have achieved amazing results; easily reaching 350 hp.

3,6 is a good candidate for turbo. Just replace the 3,6 crankshaft with a 3.0, and you have a 3,3 with about 8:1 (8:5) compression :-). Solid engine

IMO this is the best, easiest solution. Get a nice US 3.2 add headers with a turbo and you'll easily be at your 350 hp goal. Putting an LS motor into a 911 is a huge undertaking and will cost far more than the turbo 3.2. Plus your pretty much taking the car past the point of no return, and not in a good way. IMO, what makes an engine a good candidate for a turbo is simplicity. Having to change pistons, cylinders, crank, ect is a complete teardown overhaul $$$$.

Please sell your 911 if you plan on putting an LS-X in.

As a Chevy guy who has a friend who makes custom looms for LS swaps, the 911 is not the right car for one.

Tippy 08-10-2014 04:37 PM

I'd do the 3.6 with a Whipple from TPC, then save up for lower compression pistons and piece turbo parts if you want huge power.

just looked at the tpc website they sa no mods needed to the engineinsise their 993 964 kit with eaton supercarger and their intercooler makes 355 hp at the wheels that should be fun in my sc my 914 with 345 hp puts a really big smile on my face

Hello Jerry. Wasn't trying to be rude, it's just these cars are getting fewer and fewer. The SC is one of the, if not, the longest lasting, durable 911's made. Don't think it deserves an LS.

And about the LS being better than any Porsche engine made, I won't go down that rabbit hole. :)

A pushrod smc cookie cutter motor is better than a flat-6 Porsche motor? lol! Have fun, put a tunnel ram with a pair of 4-barrel carbs on while your at it. :D

if you want to put an ls1 in a porsche, get a boxster.. makes much more sense?

i supercharged my 993 with the TPC kit. It made great power with huge torque low down. The only downside is that boost does drop off at higher rpms as the Eaton charger gets a bit hot and is not quite big enough for a 3.6 ltr engine. Saying that though i did have 345 bhp at the flywheel.
The intercooler is optional at quite a bit of money. In all a kit will cost around $10K USD. The piggy back ECU is a bit gash, not many places that can tune them. I ended up adjusting my motronic unit with the TPC piggy back wired in
Compression of the 993 engine was fine as you will only run about 7 psi boost which will drop to 5.5 psi at the higher rpms.
