my 930 engine in my narrow 74 911
ok, so, I know I am nuts, but let me explain...
I have a beautiful 1974 911 with a 1983 3.0sc engine, hot rodded out. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-marketplace-discussion/811414-help-price-my-1974-hot-rod-please.html I have a 1980 930 that has been in a 3 year restoration / rebuild I have a lead on a local, rebuilt, efi 930 engine, making in the range of 430hp I have a one owner 1973 914 1.7 with 72k original miles, sitting for 5 years now cause of massive engine leaks and grinding trans Am I missing something when I say, to swap my 930 engine into my 74 911 narrow body... fuel tank front cross member with pump engine harness from 930 (which I would not be using if the current engine is efi, correct?) rear fuel pump, lines, and accumulator etc,... complete engine spare 930 engine oil tank I have Then move the 3.0 into the 914, would I really be "ruining" a original 914? I have only seen one narrow body turbo on here, does anyone know of any others that have done this swap? |

This may be a strange comment, so don't take it the wrong way, but the sound of a turbo engine is odd coming out of a narrow bodied 911. Like the sound of a V8 is odd coming out if a widebody. Fat fenders and turbos just go together. Other than that you can't ruin a 914 by adding a flat 6. The opposite is true of them, they need a 6.

If there are 356s with 930 engines = AWESOME cars, why not a narrow body with one???

The 74 uses the 7.31 trans right? That I believe wouldn't live long.
The 7 inch tires would see such pain it makes me feel sorry for them, the ass will want to wag in every direction. Other than that go for it Turbos rule!

I think Brian is messing with you. Search on the red rocket. Lol.
A turbo in a narrow body is kinda silly... Don't you agree guys? |

3.1 turbo in a 914http://www.clewett.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=11&chapter=1
930 in a narrow body seems counter productive. After you get the motor in then you'll realize you need bigger brakes, bigger tires, flair the back for the bigger tires, then there you are, a 930

Haha. No. You don't "need" any of that.
Drill your stub axles to accept 930 half shafts. Put in bigger T bars to handle the weight. Purists be damned. Enjoy the effing awesomeness. He already did a motor swap once so originality isn't a valid argument boys. Last edited by DSPTurtle; 08-12-2014 at 04:51 PM.. |

Not about originality, it's about a balanced car. I'm all for modding, and if that's what you want go for it.

That's not a narrow body!!! SC flares are not narrow. My buddy Chris has a 450HP 930 motor in his 72 911 with RS flares. Easily fits the same same wheels as a stock 930.

I'm curious - do you have a limited slip differential in your 915 trans?
