Oh No.

I looked under my car after a drive this evening and saw what everyone dreads, oil drips on the ground and a seemingly very leaky engine. I've attached some pics to show the extent of the oil leakage. Any idea what I'm in for? Valve covers? Reseal?

Sorry for the sub-par photos, I will try and take more later.

Check the lines going to the chain tensioners.

1. Clean it thoroughly.
2. Check oil level.
3. Drive it again.
Then you can begin diagnosing.

You have leaks on the transmission, oil doesn't go forward from the engine to the trans.
That's more than chain tensioner oil lines leaking on the engine.

Usual culprits over time:
- trans' shift shaft seal, output flange seals
- rear main seal, crank pulley seal, int shaft cover seal
- crankcase breather, t-stat housing o-ring
- oil cooler seals
- chain housing covers, tensioner o-rings, gaskets behind cam thrust flanges
- valve cover gaskets

Almost looks like you over filled it. I did that, it spewed out the breather vent coming out of the catchment tank, and covered the motor, dripping down...

Look at the top of your motor, behind the air cleaner, to see if thats where the oil leak started...

^you know, I feel that this should be true, but I'm not sure that it is in reality. I have some small oil drips, sometimes forming on the bottom of the transmission. Gear oil has a very distinctive odor, smells entirely different than motor oil. I am positive that the oil drips I see on my transmission are motor oil, not gear oil. How it gets there is a mystery to me...weird turbulence under the car while its rolling down the road?
