930 Short Housing Questions
Since my 4sp shortened 2nd thru 4th geared transmission just recently developed shifting problems (suspected broken syncro related parts) I'm looking into getting another 930 4sp transmission. I came across an ad for a '77 gearbox which has short housing. If I swap over to a short housing would the flywheel and/or clutch need to be changed out? I would think so in order for the starter to engage properly. Am I correct?
I'm also concerned about the condition of the gearbox that is for sale in regarding to surface rust. See photos below. Will its input drive shaft needs to be replaced? What about the input shift rod? Would this surface rust cause sealing problems? ![]() ![]() Thanks for comments.

The short housing Gearbox will only fits in a 3.0 Turbo. Otherwise you have to change too mutch things.
The best is you will rebuild your Gearbox.

Why would you want to purchase another unknown gearbox?
Especially since you already spent the money to put short gears in your existing trans. I would rebuild the existing gear box without question. You might go through all the trouble and find you need to rebuild the second box you just bought.... |
