I don't know Jack
Hi guys,
What floor jack are you using? Santa is asking me which one do I want. I can't seem to pick. I'm looking at aluminum race jacks. Post pics and reviews. Thanks in advance.

I've been using this one for a little over a year - very well built, takes almost no effort to operate it, and fits easily, anywhere under the car - money well spent.
Amazon.com: Arcan ALJ2T Aluminum Floor Jack - 2 Ton Capacity: Automotive Here's how it looks next to the car so maybe you can get an idea of its size (ya' Paul, size DOES matter!). WOW, I just noticed that it is now about $30 less than what I paid last year! Those dirty Amazon bisches!!!!!

I got a steel low profile one from harbor freight, 2.5 ton, item 68049.
Wish it lifted higher but I'm happy for the price <$100.00. It seems well made and serviceable. But if you want to know something nice in the same department... I just got a pair of esco stands from our host. Flat rubber tops and very broad base. So much more stable and assured than my old craftsman stands. I wouldn't mind finding another pair of those under the tree. ![]() Just checked, on sale for $80 until 12/15/14. Last edited by zakthor; 12-07-2014 at 01:25 PM.. Reason: price update |

I have the same harbor freight one as zakthor. Seems to be of better quality than my previous craftsman jack that died and was not serviceable, though thats not saying much these days.

I also have the same jack as zakthor. I had two other aluminum racing jacks from Harbor Freight but both developed leaks under load at height. This steel jack is lower profile and has been reliable for the past year or so. I think for the price, it's hard to beat.

I have a steel Arcan jack from Costco that I bought about 5 years ago. It is heavy, but well made and smooth operating. With that said, I would not hesitate to get the aluminum or aluminum/steel Arcan if I needed a new jack. I think Costco now carries the aluminum/steel jack for about $115.

Harbor Freight 2T Aluminum racing jack for under $100. I have two and can do lots of damage with them... much easier to put the car on 4 stands with two jacks.

2nd ^this^... I have one of these... however, after maybe 5yrs of usage, the gear drive for the release twisted the u-joint out of connection. I need to either McGuyver a fix or get a new one. Sucks, as the jack was otherwise really decent. Fukker'z HEAVY tho... I think 90lbs.
I also have one of their blue / silver aluminum cheapie racing jacks - works good enough, does flex laterally somewhat if there's any incline or side angle to the jack, and the lift mechanism only does actual lifting through the very last portion of the handle's travel which can be annoying. I also have an old Crapsman steel 1ton unit... THREE jacks REALLY makes a car easy to get up on 4standz 8-)... Hey, I like to jack off what can I say... errrrrrr... |

Thanks for the info!!! It seems like I've been on track somewhat. I'm definitely in need of an aluminum lightweight setup as I travel to tracks and friends for remote repair jobs. Definitely getting a 2 ton. You never know....... I'll look at rennlist........ Gotta remember pwd. Ha

You get what you pay for with these things. Aluminum ones are nice and they cost more but the light weight is worth it if you're taking it places.
If it's made in China it'll cost less but it will be a disposable unit. That said the small aluminum blue and silver aluminum ones from Harbor Freight are a good buy when they go on sale for around 60 to 70 bucks. They're a good backup to a good low profile one that's made in USA. |

Longer handles give you more leverage when pumping. I need a longer handle.
