Seeking 930 Non-Sunroof

Been asked a lot lately, how many Non-Sunroof 930’s were produced? Porsche doesn’t provide records on them and because they are such a tough find it’s not something that’s an easy answer.

My intent is not to start a thread about what’s good or bad about the non-roof configuration but I am hoping to understand what years they were most popular as well as what the RoW vs. North American destinations played.

Please post Model Year and VIN (with build date if possible) as well as any pictures you may have.

My 1979 NA 2/79 Build 930
VIN #9309800395

Non sunroof cars have quite a bit more headroom so if you want to track the car the extra headroom makes a lot more room for a helmet with out slumping down in the seat uncomfortably, changing to aftermarket seats, or modifying the seat mounts.

I like the sunroof for a street car.

My sun roof delete is a 1981 Euro. I'll dig up the vin # when I get time.
I have no idea how many were made w/o the sun roof. Not many though.
I've never seen a US 930 without one.
It's true what Jim pointed out re: headroom. Also, less weight up top. IIRC 15# but, personally what I like most about the s/r delete is the clean roof line.
Several years ago I almost bought a bone stock 77 Euro 930 S/R delete, radio delete, manual windows, no air, silver with green tartan interior. Coolest 930 ever IMHO. Asking price was 15k
I'm still kicking myself.

This is a 1977 USA 930 non sunroof # 133 in photos. I also know of another 77 930 USA delivered 930 Black/Black still with original owner. He ordered it this way, as in JF Airman response, as he was way over 6ft back in 1977.

Here is my 1978 German delivery, non-sunroof car. Just to clarify, sunroof was an option and would state that on the COA/Kardex. Non sunroof was standard. SmileWavyhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1427389374.jpg

Here is my COA for my non sunroof car, note that fog lights were standard and that my car was ordered fog light delete as an option. We would have seen 'without sunroof' if it was a option or delete item. In Europe it was common to see no sunroof 930's.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1427389752.jpg

AskewRSR 03-26-2015 10:21 AM

I had an 87 Turbo Sunroof Delete and the COA said.. Option delete. It was Marine Blue and tan. I believe the current owner is on Pelican. I am 6'6 and fit in the car great. Miss that car.
I was told that the Sunroof Delete cars were actually build on Racing Tubs because all of the
930's had already been stamped with sunroofs. At least that is the story I heard. T

ficke 03-26-2015 11:11 AM

Porsche sure is not consistent.
Maybe US cars were automatically ordered with the sunroof option and you had to special ordered it not to have the sunroof?
AskewRSR was your car a US delivery?
I know it was not that way with the ROW cars, as proven with my car.

kc911s 03-26-2015 11:18 AM

I have a '77 930 with sunroof and am 6'7". It gets a little tight in there.

Right, I think some of the "options" became so popular ( sun roof, radio etc )
at some point they were no longer options. I'm guessing this had to do with the US dealers pre ordering them with all the popular options.

Highway-Star 03-26-2015 02:04 PM

My 76 US -model has as an option "sliding roof"

No sun roof SmileWavy

A like sliding roof.

ficke 03-26-2015 04:06 PM

Here is the COA of a 1987 930 sold on bring a trailer listing the sunroof as an option.

kc911s 03-26-2015 04:24 PM

On my 1977 930 it shows listed options as: 220- limited slip diff and 650- sliding sunroof.

The only non-sunroof car I was aware of was a gray market 1982 930 that was owned by a Pelican. I think it's back in Europe. I think all the non-sunroof cars are Euro builds.

I put this together to better see what we have up to this point.

I have Tate's old car. Here is the COA. No mention of a sunroof delete, but I can assure you there is no sunroof.

Thank you!
I have yet to see a 930 COA with 'Sunroof delete' on it, Maybe we can lay to rest that incorrect term.
