All Wet
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1434411745.jpg
Hi Guys, I tried starting the car with no luck after letting her dry up. I had pulled seats and some of the carpet out so fans could air her out. Water appears to just have covered these modules. Where can I get these new(prefer) or refurbished. In the meantime, I will pull rest of carpet to have professionally cleaned or source a new set? TIA, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1434412661.jpg |

try putting them in a bowl of rice for a few days and try again?
yes, seriously |
Sai - is the car cranking or just "click-click" when you turn the key.

i would be reluctant that that is what is keeping it from running. the reason i say that is the only things under there that will keep it from running is if the FV is not working or the FP's are not running. all the ignition control is in the engine bay.
with that said, the speed relay controls the fuel pumps and that can fail, usually bad solder joints. the other thing is if the computer that controls the FV is not working and the FV is not running that will lean the mixture to the point of no starting. the other thing is the oxy sensor relay is not providing power to the FV. either the relay or a fuse. first thing i would do if it does not start is check for spark. next thing is pull the connector off the top back of the AFM so the FP's will run with the key on. make sure both run. not sure about the 930 but i think the FV should vibrate with the key on. i have all 3 of those boxes from my 86 car. i dont know why i am saving them because i will never go back to them. i have been thru the speed relay and resoldered the joint and i have looked over the computer for bad joints. |
I've had good luck fixing flat screen TV circuit boards by reflowing the board in an oven. If the water exacerbated issues with cracked solder joints, reflowing your boards is worth a shot. Here's a nice explanation: http://www.build-electronic-circuits.com/reflow-soldering/

Thanks for everyone ideas!

If you don't have emission testing ditch all of them.
The big one is lambda controller that operates the frequency valve on the lambda fuel head via the oxygen sensor output in the exhaust and nothing else. The middle one disables the lambda control until the oil temp sensor in the right side chain case warms up. They call it the enrichment relay and the left one is the speed relay that triggers the little lambda system vacuum change over valves for the air pump diverter valves and also delay vacuum retard during cold starts that are part of the emission control system. It has two small relays inside it and it's also the all at once factory rev limiter that disables the fuel pump relay grounds abruptly shutting off the fuel pumps at 7000 or 7200 rpms. ...another words ditch em or sell em. The car runs better without them if you do a little fuel mixture and ignition timing adjustment. |
i removed all and put in an MSD for the rev limiter.
|
jim, what do you think those 3 parts are worth
|
Sai - Sounds like you are not getting spark? Have you pulled a spark plug wire and cranked it to confirm?

I don't remember what I did with the enrichment relay. Maybe it's in a box or maybe I sold it. The temperature sending unit for it is still in the right side chain case cover. you can remove it and buy a plug that screws in where it was. Pelican has those. I know other people that have completely removed all that stuff and CIS ran fine without it. I have an MSD digital 6 ignition with adjustable rev limiter dials built into it with an MSD epoxy filled high vibration coil mounted on the fan housing |

In the meantime...just left 2 fans running in car...probably overkill! |

Dizzy was checked out for moisture and found no issues prior to spark test. Next step is fuel. Could it be that simple just to replace speed relay? |
Had some time today and pulled the speed relay. Took all of 10 secs to do. It was still full of water. Gotta believe it kept fp from firing. Should have done it the same time I cleaned and aired out the plugs...

Hey Guys,
I opened up the speed relay by prying back aluminum casing to drain rest of water out. Inspected and cleaned board with electrical spray and let air dry for a few days. The other modules were surprisingly dry so just clean them up a bit too. Yesterday I put all the modules back in. I heard swooshing noise when turning ignition on. Started cranking but she wouldn't start. Stopped and tried again and heard swooshing then cranking but no start. Immediately it hit me was system pressure, vacuum leak, etc. from countless hours of reading threads but with no application experience. I realized that I had left intercooler off after inspecting dizzy cap, rotor and plug wires. I hastily put intercooler and hoses on without tighten bolts or clamps. I cranked her and she instantly fired up. Some water blew out and decided to put the foot on her and she died again. All the hoses blasted off. Reconnected and she was purring again. That was the sweet "Sound of Music". May consider changing her name to Julie Andrews! Short story even longer....all the reading of threads does pay off plus blind luck helps! Thanks Pelicanites, |
Great news. Must have felt great to be able to troubleshoot it and bring it back to life. Nice to see you had some good luck after all you have been through
