Great color but are they serious with a sub 5 second 0-60 the few I drove back in the day were not that quick possibly a 5.5 second car and were slower then my friends euro 930 which we clocked at 5 flat pushed hard back in the early 80's.

Back in the day I would never trust anything that C&D published. My friends euro 79 930 was considerably quicker than my other friends US 76 turbo which was a bit faster than my SC but both were slower from 0-60 than my 3.0 liter IROC clone with 270 HP and 2390 pounds and it was slower than my 94 3.6T by a fair margin.

I'm finding out that this car is not so much a 1975 prototype. But a 76 930 that was a press car.

"US prototype" would suggest "First de-tuned 930"

The dark green 1976 press car went up against a black 914 turbo at the old Irwindale 1/4 mile. It was a feature story in "VW Greats" June 1976.
Both cars parked here in the sandpit runoff area. You can check out this 914 at Rennsport5 at the MSDS exhibit, vendor merchant aisle.
