what grease to use
what grease should i use in the front wheel bearings. pelican has a hi temp grease or what about valvoline synthetic. can the stuff pelican sells be used in CV joints. had to replace a CV boot.
BTW, you can get the clamp crimp pliers at advance for $10. i have one small pack of the CV grease. its just one per joint right. did not see just the packs here. brake fluid? there is some blue stuff in there now.

We always use Liqui-Moly High Temp CV grease - the black stuff. As far as brake fluid I am a big fan of ATE Super Blue.

We use the same in both cases, although I understand Super Blue may be unavailable now. They do have the same with standard coloring.

Would probably be good to go with the gold if he plans on flushing the blue - would let him know clearly when all of the older stuff is out.

I used this Swepco grease last time. The price is right and it's made in USA. It will last longer than the current day Lobro rubber CV joint boots.
Cut the cardboard tube it comes in into 4 equal length sections with a sturdy sharp knife and you're ready to pack 4 cleaned CV joints with grease. Seems to work well and it may cost less from Pelican than ebay or amazon. Wear come blue nitrile gloves available cheap from Harbor Freight while massaging the grease into the CV joints so your hands stay clean. I'm sure the other moly grease mentioned is high quality too. so the swepco 101 for both front bearings and CV?
never thought about cutting the tube like that. what ever was in the CV's was black, not grey. i think my car had the super blue in it. pelican no longer has it so any DOT 4? no synthetic right? also going to change tranny fluid. i have 4 qrts of kendall. i may change the 2 seals on the output shafts while the tranny is out.

Read the reviews, other have used one tube for 4 CV joints too.
Pack the CV joint real good with the grease making sure there are no dry parts and then slide the boot over it and snug the clamps or tie wraps down on each end of the boot. Packing the boot with grease is a waste of time and grease that will never reach the steel balls, cage, and grooves the balls ride in where the grease does it's thing lubricating. I've seen old Lobro CV joint thin out and become kind of like soup after a long time. The Swepco grease is thick and sticky when fresh from the tube. |
