Maybe it has something to do with Hagerty's hlgher premiums. They wanted 800+ for 40g 2 years ago, I have been paying 400+ for 40g and better coverage thru Leland West (American Modern).

boosted79 02-14-2017 06:14 AM

I'm getting other quotes this year, I've been with Hagerty for a long time but now they need to be more competitive.

boosted79 02-14-2017 06:25 AM

"I will say this again, and no one has ever replied, if Hagerty's valuations are self serving, then why haven't they done it across the board to all collector cars? They haven't. "

They have done it with E-types, I only ever look at those and Porsches. Maybe I should take a look at the Ferrari 250 GTO's, I've had one stashed in my mum's garage for a few decades with a bunch of furniture stacked on top of it. Are they worth anything?

No, they are worthless, but I'll clean out your garage for you and take the POS car as payment, even though it isn't worth even that.

You're welcome.

I've had Grund(le)y since I got mine in '07 and they're CHEAP (something like $385 for $85k)

and I had a nominal claim years ago - they didn't flinch at paying and quick... great experience overall

and no I won't discuss values (beyond what I just stated my coverage is for)... however, that said:

oBOOBSo

(because)

My renewal was just due. Because of this thread I checked Grundy. They were almost half. Called Haggerty to cancel my renewal and guess what. Negotiations are alive and well. Saved 31% and stayed with Haggerty. It's more money than Grundy, but there are more complaints on the web about Grundy's customer service and fighting total losses.

WERK I 02-14-2017 08:28 AM

Question for you Grundy, Haggerty, Collector Car Insurance types.....when you get a quote online, do they take into consideration the vehicle is not driven during the Winter months. Living in Wisconsin, my car is stored for 6 months out of a year.

1979-930 02-14-2017 09:24 AM

Grundy and Haggerty adjust for mileage. Under 500 miles a year is really cheap. 500 to 5,000 jumps up. Grundy has a 500 or less option in the on-line forms. Haggerty you have to ask.

Jeff NJ 02-14-2017 09:40 AM

I wasn't asked about mileage with Grundy and they don't restrict it and it was less than half of the hagerty quote. Of course, there are a lot of variables entered into the actuarial tables when coming up with a rate, like zip code (which will take into account crime rates, accident rates, weather, driving season, etc), driver info, value, and more, so it is difficult for us to compare apples to apples each others quotes.

Uhhhh, I thought we were discussing insurance companies, one in particular, that have their heads up their keisters when it comes to valuing these cars (not actually discussing the cars' value).

No rules - it doesn't bother me one bit if you or others want to discuss values, and in fact, I find the threads fun and entertaining because of all the silliness that jumps off in them (not to mention that it's difficult to look away when car nerds start spewing information that is nonsense).

Now this is interesting and a factor of insurance choice that I never considered (I don't know much about the insurance business, honestly).

boosted79 02-14-2017 10:19 AM

Insurance business is nothing more than very sophisticated gambling. Whether they stay in business and make money is totally dependent on how accurately they can forecast their claims. They look at everything, single, married divorced, age, zip code, own, rent, driving record, any criminal record, ad infinitum. Rawknee did you tell them you were a tranny when they gave you a quote? One subtle benefit of the over-valuation is the psychological effect on the insured thinking he has a 125k car vs a 75k car. Maybe he will take a little less risk since he thinks it's worth 125k, like taking more care in picking a parking spot, less risky driving behavior, etc.

Seriously, just go away and leave people to post what they want without having to hear about you complain about it no matter what they say. Why do you care and what kind of arrogance do you have to think that others should actually follow your convoluted opinions on how to post? Just. Let. It. Be. and either enjoy what's posted or don't, but don't feel obligated to tell us either way.

I brought this up to the Haggarty agent I was talking too. He mentioned my stated value was a little low. I chuckled and said if you can find someone to pay me $187,000 for my car let me know.

I think I jinxed myself. While typing this my Commercial Liability Ins broker called. Time for renewal and wants to meet tomorrow. I'll be getting one of those really big **** where the sun don't shine...

187K?

Could you describe the 930 in question. Is it a perfect factory example?
As far as the other matter is concerned, have a lot of KY handy. :)

That is Haggerty's latest #2 Value. Not that mine would fall into that category.
#1 = 212K
#3 = 125K
