soccer mom and flames out exhaust

I don't know maybe it's just me who will find this funny. My friend comes to my shop this afternoon and ask me to take him for a ride. So I go down this road I know well. I give it a little rip through the gears and stop at a stop light. Soccer mom pulls up next to me with a big smile on her face and says, you have fire comming out your exhaust. I say yes I know it does that some times. She smiles gives me the thumbs up and drives away.
Me and my friend were laughing are ass off..........
John

Haha

Some soccer mom was seriously checking out my 911 last night at a light, she was sitting passenger in her minivan driven by hubby. I'm sitting waiting for the light to change, look over and make eye contact, I look away while sitting and waiting for light to change, seems like a long time, I look back shes still staring, more eye contact, I smile, light changes i'm off!

That's odd, my car usually only attracts 10-12yo boys and old gray guys. Both give the same stupid smile and point when they see it.

I was rolling to a car event early one morning in my then 1978 930. It was still dark early AM. I had built the engine up (myself) and had dynoed at a then staggering 441HP so it shot flame pretty easily.

I was out on the highway for about 1/2 an hour when I came along onto a long line of Camaros pretty much doing the same thing as me (heading to a car event). It was a four lane highway so I pulled into the left lane & leisurely drove around the line checking the Camaros out one by one as my headlights lit up one after the other (hey I am a consummate car guy, I like Camaros too). Anyhow...

I get past the long line and then pull back into the right lane to keep motoring. Just then I see one of the Camaros in my mirror jump out of line & come charging up (I guessed they had radios & sent up the big fish for some play time). This Camaro pulls up along side & revs the heck out of his big/small block as we roll 70ish. I look over at him & decide to just drop to third & do a minor pull. I get about a car length out on him & then snap out of the throttle with a large kernel of flame out of each side (right & left tip of course).

It lit up the whole road. It was like lightning had struck.

It took about five seconds but right after that the Camaro lightly got on the brake ~ and pulled right back in line where he came from - leaving me alone up in front of this long line of American iron.

Ohhh yes. Good times.

Great stories. Flames are another great aspect of our cars.
And traffic lights are amazing what-if portals. The mind can go anywhere at a traffic light.

Nice pic and car. I see you are running 8.5 CR. What boost do you run with the CIS? Did it wake it up off boost?

Thanks! its got a .9 bar spring on Tial wastegate. It had B&B headers and triflow muffler, but when I switched the RarlyL8 headers the boost comes on around 3500 rpm or a little lower. I don't know if it is peppier off boost because I have no previous Porsche turbo experience to compare it to, but i'd say off boost power is pretty tame really.

Sheeet mahn, nobody even looks a mine any more...except for the wanna-be youngsters (often Hispanic) running ricers with loud exhaust and lowered to where you can't even drive over a squashed beer can.
The soccer moms are not in tune with what represents a fine vehicle in this world and reserve their moistness for their chosen partner. Damn.....

Benet is that you? From the Lincoln Trail PCA days and iA? I recognize the white 930 with disco interior and the 441HP number. You still have that car?

The only problems with flames in CA is they're likely to start a brush fire if you're cooking down a twisty back road in Paso Robles or something...

Flames are just too cool and really add to the persona of these cars.
I run my GT3-Look Tailpipe and the license plate has yellowed from the flame heat that washes back when you decel. Only wish I could see it live instead of just the after effects.

flames

Upon first learning our cars were capable of throwing them, and then experiencing them behind others' cars at various 'paloozers... I was smitten, infected - obsessed. *Had* to have 'em!!!

Now mit headers, Zork, BLWUR, and all the other goodies - I happily toss them upon lift after the 3rd or so successive hard pull.

Nothing like it.

Yes Michael, that's the best at night where you light up the entire scenery around you with the lightning flash - mine's like a strobe light lol.

I get frequent comments too from all walks of life - most recent was yesterday pulling into packy and getting out, beat up POS 'Mercun car full of heroin addict lookin mofos. Passenger yells out as they go past "nice Porsh!".

930's... quite the socioeconomical / generational bridge builder. Strikes chords with all it seems...

I remember the first time I saw the orange flash in my rear view mirror during decel on the interstate at night around 10 years ago.
Really freaks out people following close behind you.
