Front glass and rust...

I did not know that my 1984 930 had a heated windshield. I honestly thought that it was just delamination that caused the red like grid to be exposed in the lower corners of the glass in just the right light. Damn it all! I've been holding onto a replacement bought off the site last year thinking it was the best (and right one) to buy as a replacement for the original rock chipped glass. The glass guy was just as surprised as I was when he noticed and called me.

On the same note, as the car has come apart for paint - I am shocked as to where there is (minor) surface rust as opposed to where I thought it was going to be rust. Lower windshield I was shocked to find - nothing. Rear windshield - just a inch of minimal surface rust in the middle, but the biggest surprise was in the middle of the rocker panels under the rubber strip...

It's been an eye opener, that's for sure. I don't know what I am going to do about the front glass though. The Porsche glass guy wants nothing to do with the reinstall...

What a pussy.

I installed it myself after purchasing an original Porsche windscreen from somebody here. ( http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/763904-finished-windshield-replacement.html ) I won't say it was easy but it was definitely very doable. I did it with a friend on a warm sunny day using lots of soapy water and the rope method. Installed the rubber on the windscreen, then aluminium trim and finally wrapped the rope around overlapping at the bottom, presented the windscreen to the car, made sure it was centered and had my buddy apply pressure from the outside while I pulled the rope. I think I wrapped it twice around. Went in allright. Then I fabricated the wooden tool from pictures found here to push the top corners of the rubber to where they should be and it hasn't leaked!

My 79 930 had this.. it’s noted on the window sticker as something like “cold weather”.

I was not able to find a heated windshield. So I had to use the non heated windshield.

Front glass and rust...

Rust can happen on even a low mile 930. I do not recommend driving a 930 in the rain. They will rust.
