Turbo Blanket
Anyone using a turbo blanket on their 930 w/ Garrett GT35? If so, results, and which one are you using?

Get the TurboKraft heat shielding. None of the blankets hold up from what I have read.

To all involved. I would HIGHLY suggest that you go with the TK heat shield, instead of a turbo blanket. I had the GT35r dual BB CHRA and the TiAL cast S.S. housing on my turbo.
I had about 20K miles on my turbo, when the CHRA locked up. I was also NOT using any water cooling, and left the water jacket ports open. I do not know if the blanket itself caused the overheating, the lack of watercooling, or the combination of the two. Safe to say, the CHRA's ceramic BB's over heated, and failed. Thank God it was a low speed (no Boost) failure, and not into boost when it let go. I have since added a closed loop H2O cooling system to my car, and it is CRAZY just how much heat is pulled off of the CHRA after shutdown. I added all this stuff when I went to the new GTX3584RS turbo.

I'm another happy customer with the Turbokraft heat shield. I had to modify mine a little to fit over a Borg Warner S362 turbo, but it did so perfectly fine.

chris,
when I got my car I was trying to come up with a design that could scoop the air under the car and force more air up and around the turbo. just a thought. I will take an EFI system for my idea

Definitely agree with Kevin930 that the heat shield is a problem for oil coking, particularly after engine shut down. I'm always careful to drive low throttle for a minute or so before shutting the motor down. I know the heatshield is good for keeping heat away from the motor and fender but also aggravates the oil coking by keeping heat in the turbine housing by restricting the free convection you naturally get. I have put air flow vents in the lower valence piece to help air flow while moving but probably do little when the car is stopped Even without a heat shield I've been thinking about a water jacket and so would like to see how you guys setup H20 cooling system. I have a precision turbo double BB and have not had any problems yet but think it is a problem waiting to happen

So I'll admit to not being an expert on choosing hot side housings. When I decided my order of importance went:
1. T3 Housing (I didn't want to convert my headers to T4) 2. I was shooting for lower boost threshold and not aiming for all-out peak horsepower. 3. Divided Housing (I thought it would work towards achieving #2) So looking at the options I saw this t3 divided housing on AGP's site: https://agpturbo.com/2nd-gen-cummins-t3-divided-inlet-hx40-outlet-14cm-for-s300/ I cant give a full review of how good or bad it is yet, as I have not had my car up to full boost yet. I just passed the 500 mile mark on a full engine build and only ran 0.5 bar of boost on the car so far. I was not entirely impressed with low end response, but that may be due to my running low levels of boost?? If you or anyone else has any input on choosing a better hot side I'm all ears. (apologies for any thread hijacking)

Yes, sorry OP about hijacking!
I have yet to try it out yet, I'm in the final stages of the build. Just got the engine tin modification done and next up is the bracket for the turbo and I'll be off to the dyno! Pretty excited for it, I worked directly with an engineer at BW to help select the correct turbo configuration for my power goals and target boost levels, so fingers crossed everything works out!

Pros: 1. Lowers boost threshold 2. Reduces radiant heat around it including cartridge and compressor Cons: 1. Destroys turbine side of turbo It's a catch 22...

CHRA = Center Housing Rotating Assembly Basically its the cast iron center section of the turbo, bearings, shaft, and wheels.
