The 930 is THE best and only classic super car to own!
Not a puff piece.
After researching several possible stablemates I’ve become completely SHOCKED at the maintenance cost of other exotics.. 10 years of 930 ownership could cost as little as $3000.. 10 years of testarossa ownership.. try $30,000 to $50,000.. as they have a cam belt change every 3 years (per ferrari) at a cost of $10,000 to $15,000.. All cam belt driven ferraris are pretty much in the same maintenance schedule. What I’m saying here is 930s are by far the easiest super car to own period! A Great super car and still a GREATLY under appreciated super car.

Yes the 930 is arguably the only exotic that folks can and do use as a daily driver. Even now that the prices have gone up owners are still modding, racing and driving them.

I agree completely. I’ve been saying the same for many years. 930 is the most reasonable semi-exotic car an average person can own.
I think this is mainly because the 911 has been around a long time and share many parts and design with the 930. For many of us who own 930s today we are just lucky things turned out this way. Aside from the people that ponied up to buy a 930 when they were new, Ferraris and Lamborghinis were never meant to be purchased by average people. If you earn $50-60k a week a $15-30k tune up every three years is not so painful, like they say, the more you earn the more you spend.

One reason we think these cars have such reasonable maintenance costs is that many of us do own own maintenance. While parts cost and availability certainly plays into this, its pretty routine for our group to pull an engine. I gather that is the giant cost for a Ferrari belt change, pulling the engine.
So why don't our Ferrari brethren do their own maintenance also? I can't imagine its that much different. Sure the engine comes out the top not the bottom (I think), but hoists are cheap. They have the same CIS system, adjusting valves and so forth is not really much different than other cars, although possibly twice as many. |

I drove my 83 all over Europe from 83-84 and it was my everyday driver here in the States from 84 to 94 . I had the center control unit by the handbrake go bad once otherwise oil change, plugs

The community here largely drew me to the 930, at the time I was considering a Mercedes Pagoda or similar vintage Ferrari.

Fuel delivery and most of the eclectics are Bosch, brakes are ATE, and/or Girling in some cases. I get quite a laugh about the F-car mark-up. Stock Koni shocks are ridiculously expensive whether new or rebuilt and many owners are switching to QA1s w/Eibach springs to save cash and get adjustability and better handling. Most of the engines, again depending on model, can be removed from top or bottom, as the cars do have a race bred heritage and it shows when disassembling them. For the timing belts.. its pretty much if you're capable of doing one on any of the twin cam jap cars, you can do one of these. Follow the process and use common sense. so that's my take..

Part of the appeal of the 930 is how docile it is, when desired. Unless the recipient of a pretty darned extreme build, it's not at all high-strung, as many of its Italian contemporaries are. For example, with of her driving habits, my wife couldn't tell the difference between my 930 and my SC.

One thing I love about a 930, it is possible to drive it without feeling overly self-conscious.
Not sure is there another similar performance car, that I could possibly drive without feeling a little embarrassed.
