Countersink case "through bolts" near oil cooler?
 

Hi everyone,

I assume I countersink the through bolts under the oil cooler, correct? This is on the right side case half where factory countersunk all of the other bores. I'm half way done...

Yes, they just need to have the sharp edge chamfered, I have seen many only half done, just duplicate the others and the "O" ring will be much happier

Did you re-machine the case? Or is this something I should look for on a factory case?

Now would be the time, for me....

If you have it on the mill doing other things that would be the time, if not I have freehanded a counter sink with a cordless many times

I actually free handed mine by hand, with a 5 blade 3/4" countersink bit (home depot $10) that had a standard hex shaft. I used my multi screwdriver. Everything went fine. Cordless drill would have been a lot faster, but I was nervous. Again, worked great, following procedure published on Pelican. ~2"x3" piece of blue shop paper towel pushed in from back side about a 1/4" from top of bore. filled in rest with grease to catch chips. I oiled the bit with 3in1 oil as cutting lube for every hole, although the grease would have been fine. when done, pushed the shop towel thru rest of way.

Perhaps I should start another thread - but on the same topic - my through bolt holes are chamfered on one side of the case but not on the other. Yet the viton rings are provided for both ends. So is it recommended to make sure all through bolt holes on both sides of case are chamfered?

You should also epoxy the small cast grove on thr right side of the picture. There is a TSB for this due to oil weeping through the casting.

And the bolts should be installed from the cooler side,,,,the chamfers are designed to work from that direction.
