Car has been stored since 1998 and not run.

I need to remove engine to sort it out ,oil everywhere, wont start, other problems etc.

Got as far as oil drained.

Also disconnected:

Oil lines.
Cutch cable.
I am still looking at reverse cable and speedo cable (if there).

However, having trouble removing allen bolts from drive shafts, any good tips?

I am assuming you have a repair manual to follow?

There are a number of other things that need to be disconnected when dropping the motor.

I am not sure what you mean by reverse cable?

'74s have a speedo cable. I remove the trans mount, while supporting the trans, to get to it.

IMO the best way to remove the CV bolts is with an impact wrench.

My 74 was sitting for 6 years, just pulled the engine/trans for a trans refresh/upgrades.
I also wanted to be able to clean out the CIS lines &injectors, check head studs, (all good), adj valves, fog the cylinders, replace all fuel lines, including tunnel, pump and tank.
If you are going to leave the Axles in the car, place a stout plastic bag over the cv to keep from contaminating the joint grease and/or greasing everything that comes close.

Stick a screw driver in the brake disc to keep it from rotating then hit the cv bolts with an impact or a long breaker bar. Make sure all the crud is out of the bolt head, so the Allen can seat fully, so you don't strip the in-hex.
