Okay to use these camshafts?

I'm completely rebuilding a '81 911sc engine. First time, so I'm very, very new to all of this. In the process, I decided to go with 964 cams. I purchased these camshafts that were originally from a 3.2 and reground to 964.

When I received them, I noticed there was a very light orangish film (rust maybe?), that I was able to polish off with some ultrafine scotch-brite. However, there still appears to be some 'blackish' spotting? It's not really rough to the touch - so not sure if I should be concerned about that, or if that's normal?

Another concern is a scratch on one of the journals, it's deep enough where you can catch it with your fingernail.

Anyways, attached is a couple pictures. One with some of the lobes where you can see before/after using scotch brite and the 'blackish' spotting. The other showing the scratch I mentioned.

The seller is a good guy and said he could replace them if I'm not happy - but I want to make sure I'm not just being overly paranoid... Especially since I'm very new to knowing what a good vs. bad cam should look like... Any thoughts would be much appreciated!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1576869444.jpg

If you want to be sure, use a mic to check to make sure the journal is in spec. I personally would not be concerned with that scratch.

I also, IMO, don't see a problem with the blackish pattern you show. Looks like oil staining to me.

Most important are the lobes. Any scratches there?

You can also send the cams to the cam grinder who did the cams for peace of mind. The grinder usually stamps the cams on the ends, which should tell you who did them.
