Anyone renting water cooled M96/M97 tools?
Hey all,
I am strongly considering rebuilding the M97 3.4 in my 2006 Cayman S. It spun #6 rod bearing and has a damaged rod, crankshaft, and slight bore scoring. I have traditional engine stands, cherry picker, air tools, hydraulic press, welders, and a 4 post lift. I am mainly looking for an engine stand yoke, blind wrist pin tools, chain tensioner tools, and the crank pulley holding tool but I can prob make that. Obviously other tools I don’t even know I need yet as well haha :) If you have any of these tools in your shop collecting dust, I would gladly pay deposit, rental, and take care of them as if they were my own as well as insured shipping both ways. If you are remotely nearby I would drive to pick them up and hand deliver them back. I don’t plan on doing this more than once and am having a very difficult time justifying buying all of these tools outright. I would never pay a shop 15-20k to rebuild this thing so that is not really a comparison cost savings for me. Thank you in advance. |
Tools
Look at Stromski for tools.Just buy what you need and when you are done resell as many of these are getting of age for repair.I am sure you would buy used at a discount if you could or rent when you are done.Start a new trend.Fred

good idea.
Wish I could help, but I don't have them.... If you do buy them to use once, I guess the loss when you re-sell them, would be about the same as what it cost to rent them anyway? Just a thought... When you do eventually rebuild, I kinda hope you document it so we can learn. |
