Bearing Inspection
Curious, what does wear like this on rod bearings usually indicate? Engine is a 3.0 SC.
The main bearings look similar. Engine was running well, but slightly low on oil pressure. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

About 10 years ago I rebuilt my 3.2 at 165K miles. It had wear like you picture, but to a lesser extent. I am currently rebuilding a 3.6, and it looks similar, though the shells opposite the piston don't show as much wear. Guessing the 3.6 has 200+K on it, but I have no way of knowing - junkyard motor without a VIN. Wear on the piston side shell measures about .0003 - .0004 compared to the shell opposite the piston.
I-shaft bearings on the 3.6 are mostly just copper - wear on those can be measured with a caliper at .005.

I found my old 3.2 shells ... I guess only one of the bearings had appreciable wear.
Crazy how much skinnier the 993 shells are compare to the 3.2 shells!
