993 timing chain too short?
 

The LH cam sprocket does not reach the camshaft with the chain ramps installed. RH went together fine.

Why on earth would this happen?

Timing chain has 49 links both sides, as do the originals. Chain is on the ishaft sprocket correctly. Ramp bolts are properly engaged with the ramps. Cams are centerd in the chain housing hole. Using the old upper ramp, or the old cam sprocket, does not improve the situation. Changing the lower ramp of course requires removing the chain housing, which I am not currently in the right state of mind for.

Art you sure you don’t have a link folded over behind the inside sprocket.
Back the crank up and see if you gleen the needed Length.
Is your chain completely on the gear? Spin the motor so the 4/6 side is down, see if you
Can get the chain to free up and seat on the inside gear.

I tried those things, and no success.

I then bolted the old parts back in (ramps & sprocket) and it fit just fine.

I then bolted the new parts in again, and it still fit fine.

Obviously the lower chain ramp was not situated properly, though it sure looked like it was. I have no clue what specific part of it was not located correctly - seems difficult to install wrong, as it just won't fit. Well, it appears I am up to the challenge!

Lower ramp removed just fine without disturbing the chain housing. Maybe the upper on the right side doesn't want to come out? I recall one of them not being removable with the chain housing in situ.
