964 cams in a 3.0

My 3.0 assembly was halted on Sunday-the right side 964 cam has some extra shaft on the end and will not go all the way into the cam housing. Since the 964 cam is often suggested as an upgrade for 3.0 cis engines-this must have come up before. Can anyone point me toward the best way to resolve this???
Thanks in advance

Cut it flush with the end bearing then it will be like the one removed.
The 964 cam has a power steering pump drive instead of the oil cooler.

I have used a die grinder and cut off wheel to cut front air pump drive off set of E (I think actually L) cams. Similar process should work for 964. You could also send to one of the many places that regrind cams and they could probably remove it.

Dean,

Like what Bruce mentioned, you need to get the “drive” cut or removed to fit your 3.0 liter engine. Find a machine shop to do the revision. BTW, the second package arrived yesterday. Thanks.

Patrick racing in Arizona sells a bolt on cover plate to cure this issue. Costs about $80.00.

Just cut the drive off for free. The cover plate will require you to modify the tin on that side anyways. So if you are cutting either way, save your money....
