Front oil seal leak 964 case Mezger motor, grooved crank.

I have an oil seal leak on my 2001 Turbo. This is a recent rebuild. I was using an Elring brand front seal. The seal still looks new after 5,000 miles. I think the leak is caused by the slight groove in the crank. Should I mill down my new seal a bit so it rides on fresh metal?

Thanks for any suggestions.
