3.6 rebuild/refresh/reseal
I am nearing the completion of the original motor for my stock high milage 92 964 street car.
In the past when I rebuilt 3.6 motors for my race car I never replaced the engine surround covers that hang from the engine sheet metal over the bottom part of the motor. All the covers I now have in my spares have the foam crumbling and falling off. I would scrape it all off before using on the motor leaving the plastic with the silver outside covering . 1. I see a lot of reasons to leave them off on this motor . Any recommendations to put them on and the reasons to do so other than originality and maybe a little sound reduction. 2 If I do decide to use them, does someone have a recommendation for replacement foam or will they be fine without any foam. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676477877.jpg |
Jeff, From what I’ve seen of C2 sheet metal you’re lucky to draw a magnet on any of it, much less with foam on it.

thanks bruce at least I know someone saw the question. I have seen some pretty rough pieces of 3.6 sheetmetal myself however these are in nice shape and were blasted and powder coated. It is the vertical plastic side sheilds that I am talking about.
