Oil Hose Issues
Hello everyone,
I've rebuilt a 2.7L engine and just put it in a '68 912 body. There was obviously no oil tank, so I retrofitted an SC oil tank. The S hose fit perfectly but the other oil hose appears to be too long. I can screw in both ends but it creates a big kink. I've attached some pics of the oil line. Pic #1 is the hose I'm using. Pic #2 is towards the rear of the car. Pic #3 is toward the front of the car. Pic #4 is of the hose connected only tot he tank. You can see how long it is. Could someone give me some advice on what I'm doing wrong? Is it the correct oil line for my application? Shorten hose. Cut collar off, buy new collar from Belmetric, take to local hose making shop to crimp collar.

too long hose?
I'm not an expert at engine swaps but my thoughts are....
1. tank not in the right place (but you probably got that right). 2. short wheel base car hose shorter than LWB car, check that. Hope you find the solution without mod-ing the hose. |
Just looked and Pelican cant confirm fit of that part number to a 68 911, so might be the problem.

Cut off collar shorten the hose have hose shop crimp on a new collar. |
Having a new hose made is the way. But I went the unorthodox fix on my 914-6 GT Tribute. The oil line from tank to engine had a hard kink when I added the check valve. 3/4 inch copper pipe is a perfect fix for a 90 deg angle. Best, Markhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1718537614.jpg

It may be a short wheelbase chassis with long wheelbase parts thing, as suggested. I wouldn’t be happy with a kink in an oil line, you’re right to address it. Len Cummings can fix that, or a local hose maker if you source the correct parts.
It won’t take much shortening of that hose to make it right. Maybe only 1/2 - 1”. Remember the engine moves around a bit, so you want a little flex/slack in the hose. You don’t want to turn that hose into an auxiliary engine mount. Could overstress it and cause failure. |

Hi Boxster GT, Check valve works great, just had to create a smooth oil path to it. The 3/4 copper pipe fits nice in the 22/23 mm ID hose. Best, Mark
