afraid to start the engine
 

I got the eng two years ago. But didn't started yet. Is it a very bad thing? What should I do and how? Need advice.

Crank the engine with the coil disconnected for 20-30second intervals until oil pressure builds (simlar procedure as if its a new engine). Then reconnect and fire it up.

PS. Remove those fancy custom spheroid air filters first:)

But that's it? no need to put any gas in the carbs? just pump it?

Remove spark plugs and squirt some oil in the cylinders, then rotate the engine by hand to verify it can rotate. While you're there, perform a compression test and record readings. Reinstall plugs. If everything is okay so far, try to start it. Carbs may be be gummed up from storage in which case the engine may not run well or at all. Check for adequate fuel pressure and spark too.

I'll wait, but guys all your advices make sences for me.

Take out the tennis balls and go play a few sets of doubles first.

A thimble in the carbs would not hurt if you were going to just start her straight away, but you do not want to start the vehicle until after the oil pressure has been built up per Magic. By the time you are through doing everything suggested by Sherwood and Magic, there should be plenty of fuel in the carbs.

You do not need to drain the fuel. After you have been turning over the motor to get the oil pump primed per Majic's suggestion the fuel pump will have already started pumping fuel into your carbs. This should suffice to prime the carbs and prepare your car to start.

If the fuel is 2 years old you may need to dilute it with some fresher fuel to get it to start.

If fuel is 2 year old and tank is half empty, fill it with fresh fuel.

Don't use any 2-year old fuel. Tap into the line and flush it out. Today's gasoline doesn't store very well.

Take a close look at your carbs - the floats may be stuck closed. Don't run any fuel through them though, until you've cranked the engine a few times and built oil pressure. Make sure that you change the oil first too.

I changed the oil already and now going to flush the gas tank.
I dont want to take any chances.
I'm taking notes and going to fallow all the advices.

When you flush the tank check to make sure there is no crap coming out of it, as best you can.

I remember one 914-6 that I bought. It had been sitting for quite some time. The needle valves on the carbs were stuck open. When I turned the thing on, fuel came right out of the top of the carbs and spilled all over the engine. Surprised the heck out of me. Good thing I didn't try to crank it just then...
