2.2 Carb help

Hey guys, seems like my search for a 2.2'ish engine keeps ending with long blocks only.

What should I be looking for to complete a 2.2 long block? What would be a good set of carbs to get for the 2.? engines?

Anything to lookout for on the 2.2 or 2.?'s?

Cheers and thanks
Kerry

Weber 40 IDA's for the carbs Kerry.

As for engine choice, perhaps the question is too open-ended ... needs more background.

Have you got Anderson's 911 book and Wayne's rebuild book?

Thanks Gavin,

I am looking to buy one of the 2.x L engines. I have heard there are som issues with the 2.7's but nothing too much about the others.

I haven't bought he book yet..I think the wife is getting me both of Wayne's books for xmass.

Sieems like most 2.2's don't come with induction. I guess I need to keep an eye out for some carbs. Thanks again

Kerry

Anderson's book is good too.
What usage will your car see? ... mild street with full "reliability", full track, or something in the middle?
How much work will you do on your own car and how skilled are you?
How much $$ can you flush on this?
Have you seen a can't-pass-it-up bargain locally that swings the decision for you?
Personally I like a carb-ed 2.2L in a 914. I have a 914 that's had 2.7, 2.2, and 2.0L sixes.

This will be a street car and driven in a fun manner

I will be doing everything myself and I am getting better each time I weld. If the engine needs a top end I should be able to handle that.

I have been working on my 914 for 4 years now so I am kind of in a good groove I have already converted to 5 lug, 19mm MC, turbo ties, flare's..etc

I am looking for bargins as wee speek and think I have a line on some parts but haven't heard back from the sellers yet on their price.

Are you selling any

Thanks

Kerry

Well Kerry, I just took the 2.oL out of my 914 vintage racer - after three race seasons, it looks very tired. I'm looking at another donor motor to possibly start all over again, rather than rebuild the old one. There are so many variables and routes to take with these motors: never seems to be just one sure answer for each question. You could go crazy with a 3.2 or 3.6L, or even a V8. But that's what makes it fun, right?

Yes, I have a 2.4E. So I am a little biased. But I have had most of the 2.2's and 2.4's in one of my cars at some point. For spirited street driving the E will keep a smile on your face, especially 3rd gear on an on ramp. I'm smiling just thinking about it!

All the engines are fun though, but for the money the 2.4E is the way to go. It's the fasted of the 2.2's and 2.4's and costs way less than an S engine.

The 2.2T is the only one I'd stay away from. But you can pick one up pretty cheap and it can easily be stroked to a 2.4. It would end up a 2.4T with ~2.4S compression. Definitely a fun street car.

So my advise would be to pick up whichever you can find the best deal on. A 2.2 stroke to a 2.4, and a 2.4 just leave alone.

All this is my humble opinion of course. Other opinions may vary.

Thanks..I'll keep an eye out for a 2,4E. I haven't seem that many listed/for sale.

What would be a fair price for a clean running engine with a some miles on it? This way I'll know a great deal when I find one.

Kerry
