2.2 T or 2.2 E piston?????

I need to replace my set of Cylinders & Pistons due to excessive wear. I found a replacement set for a reasonable price, which was sold as a "T" set. The Pistons are Mahle made.

My own "T" set has Kolbensmidt pistons and had a 5mm oil ring.

When I bought new rings with the "T" set, I found that the oil ring was 5mm, but the groove in the piston is 4mm.

Do I have a genuine set of "T" pistons or are the "E"? Is there a difference between the 2 oil grooves? (4mm & 5mm)

Inside the Mahle pistons it shows an "E". Does this mean it's an "E" piston?

I'm puzzeled!

Anyway, what are the differences between T & E pistons and can I use E pistons in a T engine without difficulties?

Thanks for your help!!!

Yes, you can use E pistons in the T engine. No problem.

By the way that "E" you see is actually an "M" for "Mahle".

If it's the smaller groove, then it's a Mahle. The Kolbenschmidt has the 5mm groove. This is what was put in my engine (the Mahle's were originally in there, so I saw both)

If you need a set of Mahle 2.2T rings I'll sell you a set at 1/2 price. I had the wrong one's and never got around to returning them. I'm not sure what shipping would be to the Netherlands??

Thanks Jay. I guess they are T pistons. They have the same dimensions as the Kolbenschmidt ones, only the oil groove ring is 4MM.

Thanks about your offer on the rings, but I already changed mine for a set with a 4mm oil rings. Why don't you sell them on Ebay??
