Could I do this?
I have various issues with my car posted elsewhere, long story, boring.
I have very little mechanical experience apart from rebuilding Lambretta and Vespa engines 15 years ago. Could I rebuild the top end of my 72 911T myself and what kind of costs would be involved? |
If you haven't already you should order Waynes Engine Rebuild Book. The part number at pelican parts is: BK-135124
and the web site for the book is: http://www.101projects.com/911-Rebuild/index.htm I would think that you would be able to do it with the assistance of waynes books. I am giving it a try on a newer engine and I have no experience. Rich |
Nigel,
YES YOU CAN! I second the recomendation to buy the book, it's good reading. Also, they are a few pelicans down that way; I'm sure they would help, I would but am moving to Orlando in 2 weeks. The cost really depends on what was damaged. If a valve dropped into a cylinder, you more than likely need one new piston and barrel(kinda hard to find just one) If the piston broke, you have more damage into the case/crank. I just got a quote from someone on the board for 2.7 heads ready to go for like 1200; I think full piston/cylinder sets are around 2200. EBS may be able to source one piston/barrel, but the cost really depends on what was damaged. BTW I think I saw you up in New Tampa some time ago, nice car. |
