I believe what you have is a Metzger GT3 case. I assume by the pictures that it is used so case history will be important. If it came out of a race care, it could have many (maybe too many) hours of high RPMs in it's past.

A bit out of topic, but would a water cooled Metzger case be used with air cooled engine components?

Although there is a bunch of machine work required (including fabricating a fan base) and welding, if you have the money, it can be done.

I'd be interested in a ruined case for display.

That said - be careful, if anyone is thinking of making offers on the case in this thread. Not saying it is but - it's a common tactic for scammers, to post a vague question about price of a valuable item, hoping to get someone to inquire about it privately.

I buy sell random parts as a hobby. Not a porsche guy just trying to assign a value. I find it kind of silly to assume its seen high RPMS or that its ruined

Since you openly admit that you know nothing about Porsches, I'll offer some expertise.
First, the engine case is from either a GT3 or a 996 Twin turbo.
Because there is no outward signs of explosion and it was obviously assembled at one time, you have to question why it was disassembled.
If you knew anything about the GT3 you would know that they are designed to perform at higher than average RPMs. The race engines will regularly achieve shift points above 9000. Because of the high stresses on these engines, the factory has set engine life at around 100 hrs. At that point the engine is disassembled and the parts are evaluated.
If the parts are good the engine is reassembled using new items to replace normal wear parts. If it is determined that any parts are out of spec, the parts are generally disposed of. Some in the waste bin, some to builders looking to cut corners and sometimes they are sold to unsuspecting parts traders.
You have no history on your engine case so when I said "history will be important" I wasn't just blowing smoke. There ends your lesson, as "silly" as it may be.

I find it silly to dismiss one of the top air cooled engine builders in the country when he gives you feedback. Your post is vague…
