3.2 Rebuild Steel Or 993 Dilavar Stud

What shoulkd I replace my standard 3.2 dilavar studs with the 993 Dilavar's or will just the plain steel ones work just as well? as on the intakes?

I used all new factory steel studs on my project.. If my budget had allowed..I would've used the Supertec studs. Dan

Use the steel 993 studs. They are the cheapest. Part # is 993 101 172 02
($9.28 each from PP).

I used the steel 993 studs, FWIW.

Why are these studs threaded their entire length? Isn't it true that rolling threads into the stud, even with proper heat treatment, etc., still results in a weaker stud than if only the ends were threaded?

Is the thread form something special, like a British Whitworth, with rounded instead of sharp peaks/valleys?

Just curious, I DO give the Factory's engineers some credit . . .

I used ARP pieces for all my headstuds. and perhaps more importantly, since you are talking 3.2L here have you replaced your rod bolts? I used ARP rod bolts there as well.

no comprimise.:)

good luck

I used the 993RS/tt versions on mine

stock steel fully threaded are 993.101.172.02

the motorsport versions are not fully threaded
993.101.170.51
cost used to be ~$5/ea more

The steel 993 101 172 02 studs I've purchased the last 2-3 years were not fully threaded.

I've always used the unthreaded steel ones...

1972_911T 10-31-2005 03:03 PM

Isnt it just the dilivars that were fully threaded?

blue82coupe 10-31-2005 03:34 PM

Hey Fellas... correct me if I'm wrong.. but isn't the turbo head stud made of dilivar?

blue82coupe 10-31-2005 03:44 PM

According to PET the 993 101 170 51 .. have a model designation of M64.20/60. Dan

The fully threaded studs are 993 (PN 993XXXXXXXX) studs. The steel not-fully threaded studs are the motorsport studs, like Bill posted.

I've used all the above depending on the client's need or budget. My preference is the ARP studs (and rod bolts).

blue82coupe 10-31-2005 04:43 PM

Hey Souk.. Don't intend to get sideways with anyone... It's just according to our hosts catalog.. the 993 101 170 51, is a fully threaded Dilivar stud.. Please don't mistake my confusion.. for being argumentative...I take Bills word as gospel..Dan
