Thumbs up 996water pumper rebuild

A freind and I are putting together the parts for a spec boxster, the engine is out of a wrecked 2000 911 we would like to tear it down it has alot of miles we think the chain tensioners need replacing, plus the low end bearings need checking etc.while we are good mechs. we have reservations could run the engine as is till it blows and replace but later we would like to be able to freshin it up on our own. Ferd:

A coupla things to think about:

1) Porsche doesn't sell any parts for these engines: only complete rebuilt units.

2) A substantial investment in special tools is required to work on these (we had to do that for customer race engines) motors.

In that light, IMHO its cheaper to simply pony up and buy the rebuilt, exchange motors from Porsche in cases like these.

Looking in the future, will we all end up with water pumpers? Great will need more tools. I recall the Porsche diagnostic CD/manual went for 10K. Now there are no parts. Well just new problems to resolve.

Now where is that 996 forum...

Goodluck!
