Removing the engine

Which way would be the easiest to remove the engine?

Jacking up the rear of the car only or jacking up the entire car?
It seems to me that jacking up the entire car you don't have to pivot the engine in a funny angle to get it out. You can just drop it straight down. Or I can do it just as easily with the rear jacked up.

What a lot of people suggest doing is dropping the engine out of the car while the car is on 4 wheels then once the engine is on the ground you use your second jack and simply jack the car up high enough for the engine to clear the rear bumper and valence.

I just dropped my engine and tranny together and I lifted the rear only as far as my jack stands would go, then slid my Craftsman ATV jack under the engine and put a few pieces of sturdy lumber on the ATV jack to reach the bottom of the engine. I dropped the engine/tranny, then lowered the ATV jack but I still had to remove the rear valence to get enough clearance. I slid the lumber out from under the engine/tranny, then rolled everything out. In retrospect, I wish I would have kept the car lower, then jacked it up after the engine/tranny was on the ATV jack. Just my experience...

Depending on your rear valance/motor intake you have you have enough clearance undearneath. I jacked it up on 6 ton jack stands. Using sections of 4x4s too. Thought about a motorcyle jack, almost bought one. The reinstall was not easy, but I squeezed motor back up and in (G50 transmission studs can be a pain).

What size are your jack stands? You may have to consider taking off your rear valance?

Are you going to have any help. I worked alone for the most part, and that is good and bad You may have to go find someone to give you an extra hand once or twice during your R&R.

I know what you are going to be doing this summer. Enjoy!

Regards,
