3.0L rebuild
 

Well I'm finally back into the rebuild of this 3.0L engine I purchased. With a move from Oregon to Florida lot's of priorities get moved around.

Split the case yesterday and as I was taking the connecting rods out I found one with no bearings!!!!

That doesn't look right! The jornal doesn't look too bad but for sure will need to be checked by someone more experienced than me. If this engine was rebuilt I would guess it had a knock at startup and hopefully didn't run much after that.

Nothing to bad other than that besides some broken exhaust cylinder head studs. Tomorrow the last head gets opened up and the cam pulled.

Then new cams from John Dougherty, clean everything, find a machine shop in the Orlando/Tampa area and begin the assembly.

That doesn't sound good Kent - but maybe the engine was never fired up - just opened up and reassembled (less one bearing set)

Maybe the PO replaced a rod, piston, cylinder set, then on-sold the engine.

Well the crank and one rod are candidates for door stops and paper weights.

Now looking for one std/std or reconditioned 3.0L crank and one std rod.

Talked to Mike at J & B racing in Taveras, Fl and I think I'll send my machine work over to them. Local (no shipping) and they support Alex Job plus have a really nice shop.

I'll post over on the classified for the crank/rod also.

Hi Kent, I'm assuming that you had it checked (measured) out since your first post?

Any photos of the damage?

It would be nice if there was still enough meat on the crank to grind it under-size

Had it checked by two reputable sources and both didn't even put a micromenter on it. I'm now looking for a replacement.

Slow going on this rebuild for sure. When ever I get it put together I then have to swap the intake, exhaust, hyd chain tensioners and distributor from the other motor.

While the engine is out I'll finish installing the aluminum trailing arms.

Lordy this is taking a long time. Think I'll run out and buy a lottery ticket!!!
