SC Oil Pickup Tube

I am putting my 3.0 case together. I have noticed that the oil pickup tube will twist a bit, maybe 15 degrees, when I grab it and twist. I cannot pull or push it and notice any movement. I am going to take my old junk oil pump apart to see how this tube is connected to the pump body; my guess is interference fit.

Anyone else have this condition, and should I be concerned? Any irregularities in the scavenge side of the oil system get my attention.
TIA and Happy '09.
Pat

oilpickup

The oil pickup is a close fit then secured with epoxy on the outside. The pickup shoulddirectly drop into the screen hole.
Lay your pump into the case half. Put the screen in place and the pump pickup has to be on the case half side as the drain has to be on the opposite side.
When you look up at the bottom of the engine, the drain plug should be to the left of center as the pickup is to the right even though you cant see it.
So the hole in the screen is the locater of the scavenge pickup.

These tubes come loose all the time. There is no load on the tube so repairing it is perfectly fine. The oil pump pick up tube is a tight (interference) fit then epoxied in place. Remove the oil glue, center the tube and reglue it with a high quality epoxy like JB weld or Loctite Epoxy Patch.

What would happen with the tube slightly loose like this? Would you have any oil pick up issues or sucking air? It seems like alot of work to repair this if it were in an assembled engine....trying to see any downsides to leaving it alone.

I've had a long hstory of overheat issues, most of which have been resolved. But since I am putting in this oil pump, I just figured I'd do the best I could with it while I can get at it. As I said, I've become anal about the scavenge side of the system. I suppose if the tube were really loose, you could certainly get issues.
