Starting my 3.0 rebuild
Hello,
Wanted to post and warn everyone that many questions will be on the way! I spent the winter taking the engine apart due to all the lower exhaust studs were broken. I purchased the car (80sc) in the fall knowing it would need a rebuild. This will be my first Porsche engine rebuild so I'm kinda nervous. I started this week by taking the engine case to the machine shop for cleaning and the crank polished. Next week I will begin cleaning the case and following Wayne's book begin to reassemble it. Also, I figured while I'm in there I would replace the clutch with a new kit and clean and go through the CIS system. Thought I would include some pics :)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274916244.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274916282.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274916309.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274916336.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274916365.jpg |
Congrats opata you are almost at the stage I am at. I got my crank and case back from the machine shop yesterday. My re-build will be longer than yours as I save and gather parts. Its winter here anyway so gives me something to do. Look forward to following your re-build should help me out immensely as I am also a first timer here.

Hi Daviboy....
Gathering all those part is time consuming and $$$$. I decided to go with a stock rebuild. The only mod is to backdate the exhaust. My heads will be done in a couple weeks. i figure in the mean time I'll put the case back together. There is a lot of while your in there stuff to do! A guy can dump a lot of $ on those :) There are necessary things to do such as replace the tranny and engine mounts, replace the vacuum hoses and intake boots. I went ahead and replace the starter as well. I'll post pics as the engine comes together. Good luck with your prep! |
Good luck, can't wait to see the pics as it goes together. You have no where to go, but up!

Hope to be doing what you are doing some day!

Hey thanks for the replys! I started to put the rods on the crank today and forgot to put lock tight on the first rod set of bolts! I orderd some new ones. Wow! I'm starting off really good! :)

Hummm....some say use lock tight some say dont use it. I'm not going to worry about it...the bolts are torqued...so I'm moving on. :)
