Barrel Shim Installation

I had my case re-bored back to standard which involved shaving material from the mating surfaces. In order to get the deck height to proper size I have to install barrel shims. Do these go between the case and the cylinder? Is any type of sealant recommended like 1211 or 1194?

That's where they go. You already had ones, probably 0.25mm. You can get them in 0.50 from several sources I think. EBS has them in 1mm. Depends on how much was shaved, and what you want to do in the way of compression. A stock motor might have enough clearance, but unless you put in enough shims that the height from case (really crank centerline) to the head mating surface is longer than it was before, you will want to check head to piston clearance, and probably valve to piston clearance also.

Though if you get specific, there may be guys here who can say they did such and such on a motor like yours, and here was result, etc.

Porsche did not specify sealant, and some think it isn't needed, Others use Curil T, which is pretty harmless stuff.
