Why are these bolts so long?
Two of the bolts hanging out of the chain covers are longer than the others. Why did they do this?

Probably had a smog pump mounted there at one time.

If you're deleting the air pump, replace the studs with parts of the appropriate length.

If you have the smog pump, I'm sure there are folks out in The Republic of California that need it for smog inspections.
