Fuel line sleeving
There is an outer plastic sleeving around the hard plastic fuel lines that is cracking and pretty much falling apart. Is it ok to just pull the outer sleeving part off and leave it at that or any does it need some added protection?

If the line itself is still usable...there is such a thing as clear heat shrink tubing.
You could take off the old covering and replace it with the clear to make it nice again. Bob

![]() ![]() Sounds like you have a 73 - 83 CIS model with Polyamide tube and a outer rubber sheath. The rubber cover will dry out & crack, and eventually the Polyamide tube inside it will as well. At one time I thought this Polyamide tube was bulletproof and would never fail, but I recently got in a CIS return Line from a 82SC, and that line actually snapped with an audible "crack" when I flexed it. Strip back the rubber part and do the flex test. If it remains intact you are good to go. With a few exceptions, this original tube with the rubber sheath is no longer available from Germany or worldwide. However, the replacement Polyamide tube w/o the rubber is, and I keep it in stock I am happy to help if needed. Please email me, no PM's. i have heard of a way with wd40 and air pressure to manipulate fuel line over the choline...
so its a two person job. 1. lube the inside of the fuel line 2. clamp one end of the fuel line 3. take the other end of the fuel line and attempt to push onto the Choline polyamide tubing 4. have person #2 force air thru the opposite end of the Choline 5. this will supposedly infllate the fuel line just enough to slide the Choline inside. i havent done this, but it sounds do able...kind of a myth busters thing. If you attempt this...please wear your safety glasses and report back in ![]()
