Engine reinstalled, won't run

I reinstalled my engine after fixing some oil leaks and adding RSR seals to my rocker shafts but it won't start. In the process of cleaning and sealing, I did take the entire CIS system off. I am assuming that since it ran perfect (other than leaking oil) that it should run the same way.



Right now it will sputter as if it is going to start then don't take to running. A couple of cranks will cause the expansion chambers to get warm, with some pops and explosions happening so I think I am getting some spark and some fuel.

I know I have fuel pressure because I had a lose fuel line at the engine and also forgot to connect the line that goes to the bottom of the accumulator.

I have downloaded a schematic to confirm that all of the vacuum hoses are in the correct locations.

I am running a pertronix ignitor that was new last year and ran great before pulling the engine. I have triple checked the firing order and that the rotor is pointed at the #1 cylinder at TDC of the crank's timing marks. I have moved the dizzy back and forth to see if I can get it to run when cranking.

I have not doubled check that the valve's on #1 and #4 are opening when I am at TDC, I need to do that. However I am not sure that I getting fuel.

I pulled the #4 injector and have nothing coming out when I crank the engine over. I do not have enough experience with CIS to know how to trick it to spray from the injectors when the car is not running to confirm that it is working correctly or if it is simply not working.

I feel like i am all over the place in diagnosing this, but mostly need some confidence or guidance on making sure the CIS is correctly reinstalled.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

On a 77 you get fuel to the injectors by lifting the air flow sensor turning on the pump.
Z1 on the pulley should match #1 on the distributor and the #1 intake rocker should be loose. If it's tight, turn pulley 360 degrees and reset distributor to #1. Now #1 rocker should rock.

Thank you Bruce for your reply.

So if I lift the airflow arm with the ignition on and nothing comes out of the injector, then I need to start figuring out why the fuel system is not working.

Are you sure you adjusted the valves properly? Sounds like they are too tight.

Does the pump come on with the key on or does it come on when lifting the air flow sensor?

Bruce,
It wouldn't come on at all either way. I ran back through the wiring again and switched the airflow sensor connection with the cold start connection and the fuel pump came on when lifting the air flow sensor.

Once I heard it come on, I reinstalled the #4 fuel injector and it started right up! I want to check the lines and button anything up before I start it again.
