New Camshaft - looks used / previously installed -send back?
I just bought a set of new Camshaft from dealer.
One camshaft was package in a plastic bag. The other was not and it had some ones dirty hand marks on it. On one end of this camshaft, looks as though it was installed and removed. Question is if I do keep this camshaft and based on the pictures, should I worry or simply return for another camshaft? Thanks in advance for your advice. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by 0396; 12-13-2015 at 07:12 PM.. |

If I pay for new I want new...not almost new. Call them up, send them the pics. They may have made a mistake.

The area that looks used previous install is 1) not in a plastic bag like the other one 2) the hand marks on the box and non factory tape.

The top pic has the finished removed as if it had been installed and turned....why it was installed/removed would be my concern. Could be fine, but I'd inquire.

I don't think anyone can answer that question as it came from the Porsche parts depot in Germany.
I think someone order it installed it and returned it to the dealership in Germany. Again, my thoughts are - if I order and pay for a new camshafts, I expect them unused. But due to the low stock in Germany, I figured I should inquire here. Thanks |

Tom,
I respect your opinion, but how about the shiny part on the front of the camshaft. ..where it looks like it was installed and turn without any lubrication. Is there any concerns there? Thanks |

I am not sure where the "shiny" part you are referring to is.

Its on the first picture near the nose of the camshaft.
Should I be concerned with that area? Last edited by 0396; 12-11-2015 at 05:53 AM.. |

The finish is worn off near the bearing surface and nose...the only way to do that would be mounting I'd guess....altho it doesn't look run, just turned.

abides.

As long as it's straight, I wouldn't worry about that area you're talking about. Could just be from factory checks.
There are other factory parts that come with marks on them... rod bearings come to mind.

Thanks for all the replies. I wanted new and paid for new, so this camshaft in question is on its way back to the dealer for replacement. Last edited by 0396; 12-14-2015 at 06:38 PM.. |
