Rocker arm swivel foot stuck in rocker

Just getting around to taking appart the rocker arms. Have tried to remove 2 of the adjustment swivel feet. Both of the lock nuts seemed way too tight, and I can not remove the adjuster foot from the rocker arm. Am I correct in assuming the the previous mechanic over tightened the nut and deformed the threads?? I would like to salvage as much as I can here. Any ideas from the collective?
Thanks
David

Yes, your assumption is correct.

Just screw it in or out and place a thread cleaner on the elephant foot.

Mine were really tight too then I chased both threads.

Thanks previous mechanic, who installed a factory new fuel tank without the foam seal to the body, who resealed the turbo scavenge pump with RTV, and over tightened probably all the valve adjusters. Was a shop in Charlotte NC that I believe is now out of business. Not cheap either....
Anyone know the thread pitch?

I use an adjustable 8x1 die, back out the foot all the way with a bit of pressure on it then run the die down, if the foot starts to unscrew thats fine, run the die down to the rocker then back out the screw holding the die and rocker together, you will get the idea once you start to do it.

I have a set of spare rockers and adjusters, just such a let down to see a good part abused like this. I will get an adjustable die, or maybe one of these split dies... That looks cool.

If the adjuster threads are deformed or damaged, you should cut the swivel foot off, unscrew the adjuster from the slotted end and replace it.

If the threads are damaged to the extent that it refuses to unscrew, we simply pop the foot off the stem and back it out.
Then a forming tap is used to clean the threads in the rocker.
Now install a new elephant foot with confidence.
