Weber 40IDTP Rebuild?
Hi Guys, I'm trying to find a solution to my carb issues. The motor is a 2.2s spec motor with 40IDTP carbs. The car is experiencing an issue on a couple of cylinders were I think they aren't getting enough fuel at idle. If I spray some carb cleaner in the particular carb at idle I will get a temporary increase in rpm. Once I increase the rpms with a throttle input, I can hear the cylinders fire up. For the most part, the car runs great with the exception of a low rpm at idle, and an occasional backfire through the carbs around 3500 rpm on up and down revs. I checked the compression and things checked out. I'm in the process of doing a valve adjustment. The car has spark in all cylinders.
I'm not sure how to attack this situation. I'm thinking there is some issue in the idle circuit. Is a rebuild necessary? Is it possible to clean the idle circuit without disassembly of the carbs or do they need to be pulled apart? Kind of new to carbs, but not afraid to play around with them. Should I buy rebuild kits, are they the same as IDA kit? Or should I let a pro go through them? Recommendations appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
Pull the idle jets and blow them out with compressed air. Quick and easy

Turbo, I pulled the jets and they looked okay. I sprayed them down with carb cleaner. Same results. I was hoping the idle jets were the problem but unfortunately not. Maybe I'll pull them again and used compressed air as well. I'm thinking it has to do with the idle circuit. I wish I knew carbs better. I probably should purchase a book or two from our host. I thought about sending them out for a freshener to Performance Oriented but it looked liked they're booked into 2018!

Talk to Henry @ Supertec Performance.
supertec1@earthlink.net They did mine and they work great......look like new as well. I also had them do my throttle bodies....fast, fair price and professional. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1489756277.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1489756277.jpg |
Very nice! Thanks Jim, I'll give Henry a shout.
