Engine sealing
 

I just disassembled my 2000 996 engine for rebuild, there is sealant between the crankshaft cradle and engine block. Is this factory or was this engine apart?
I rebuild a 99 a few years back and that one had no sealant in this area.

I do have access to original Porsche documentation on installing a crankshaft bearing case in a 911 996. I see no mention of using any sealant.
