Dual clutch problems
2011 135i Msport package with 7 speed dual clutch automated manual (so says the brochure) sports transmission. Does anyone else have a problem with surging and trying to accelerate while approaching a stop sign? Some times it seems the computer just gets confused and can't engage/disengage the clutch in time. Lately it has gotten to the point that it will either let the engine die or slam the car forward (drop clutch accel) while slowing for a stop light. Any help? Dealer says all clutch specks are within tolerance.

Hey Derek and welcome to the forum! Any codes get thrown?

DCTs don't use the same type of clutch as a regular manual so it is hard to call them apples to apples. Most modern DCTs are wet clutches and really the wear on them depends on the controllers and fluid. VAG cars don't have a hard lockup from the factory so track use of their DSGs tend to lead to limp mode due to high fluid temps. Frequency of maintenance is more akin to automatics really. The big thing is though, like an automatic, if you blow a clutch pack, it means you are tearing apart the whole transmission. Not just dropping it and replacing you friction disc.
