Engine Over Heat Warning. Need Help

Just experienced a strange event on a highway trip with 2006 325i with 100,000 miles. Engine temperature warning light came on yellow or orange and in a few seconds went to red. I think the A/C compressor shut off and I lost power(no acceleration). Pulled off and checked coolant, no problem. Engine did not seem over heated. I disconnected battery ground and reconnected thinking that I had a false fault and that would reboot the ECU. Then the tire pressure icon showed up along with "battery". I checked tire pressure and they were only off a pound or two. Balanced tire pressure and reset tire monitor. Drove for a bit and all warnings disappeared. Engine ran as normal for another 90 miles to home with no warnings or problems. What do I need to do? Did I reboot the ECU properly? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Did you try to pull any codes to see if there was an actual fault? I've also had some odd occurrences happen with my 135i that ended up being nothing.
