Steering wheel lock light

I have a 2007 328i with 170k and I have an intermittent yellow "Steering Wheel Lock light " coming on when I remove my FOB. The dealer says I need to change out the computer on the steering column $1,800 us. I've looked on YouTube for answers / suggestions and i have reset the counter but that didn't solve the problem. Anyone else have the same problem and got it fixed ?

I was able to fix the same issue with my MAXI MK808. Maybe try to find a shop that has one and can help you out?

As the user below suggested, pull the error codes from the car. That should give you a good idea as to where the issue is coming from. Perhaps that alert just needs to be reset; which a scan tool is able to do.
