E90 wheel speed sensor
Hello all! Long time Pelican, but mostly on the Porsche side. I have an issue with my daughter's 2011 328xi I'm hoping for some help with. A couple weeks ago, her 4x4 Service Engine light and a couple others popped up. We took it to Advance Auto, and had it scanned... LF wheel speed sensor was the code.
I took the sensors out and cleaned them at all 4 corners, but didn't see any real issues. The code popped back up in short order. Replaced the front two sensors (RF was preventative maintenance), with Bremi sensors. Ordered Bosch, but the Bremi got subbed in due to lack of availability on the Bosch. Anyway, installed them and cleared the codes, and all was good until yesterday (1 week later). Codes came back, and read... still no signal from LF Sensor. I pulled it yesterday, added some dielectric grease and tried to clear the codes. Issue persists. Is this a common issue for the E90 cars, or something you may have seen before? We don't have a european car mechanic for 30 miles, so I do most of this myself. This was an easy replacement of the sensor, but now frustration has come. |
Hi cfassett!
There a toothed ring on the axle or hub that the sensor reads from. If the teeth are corroded or dirty it can cause a bad signal. usually a wire brush can clean them up. That might be your issue. Good luck! -Matt |
