I can't get head off am I missing a bolt somewhere? 1998 528i the head is loose in the back and tight in the front near the water pump housing - maybe just stuck? PLEASE HELP

Check that you didn't miss the bolts near the timing cover. if I remember correctly, there are 16 or 17 bolts that have to be removed.

Hey Bass66,
I followed the write-up from somewhere in this forum to remove the engine head about 2 years ago. I found that there are 2 or 3 thin bolts near the front of the engine that also need to be removed for the head to come out. These bolts hold a bracket that in turn either holds the timing chain or the Vanos. Don't remember exactly. I hope this helps. Good luck with your car work. R.G. |
