Eccentric Motor

Hello all, I have a X3 2008 upon doing my valve cover gasket r/replace I see a bent steel/wire attached to the top of the Head w/a Torx bolt. It is about 2" and is bent at a 90 degree angle. What is this part called and its purpose?? Does it need to touch the eccentric shaft worm gear ? Is it a calibration piece for the eccentric motor? Anybody know what this is and what it does? I've posted a picture as well. Thank you all !! :)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1536787218.jpg
